In 2019, a Windows virus corrupted every file on my production computer — nearly a full terabyte of work, including songs I had produced and was keeping safely in my studio directory. Every file, from videos to documents, dropped to 0 bytes in an instant. It felt like everything I had built as a producer was gone.
That loss changed how I thought about music distribution. I started reaching out to website owners to release my work online, and that's when I discovered something troubling: every Malawian music site I found charged artists just to upload their own songs. There was no free option — you paid, you got a few weeks of promotion, and that was it.
I tried building something better myself — first a simple Google Sites page, then a Blogspot in 2020 — but both were too limited to manage properly. So I taught myself HTML, PHP, MySQL, and JavaScript from scratch through YouTube tutorials, learning XAMPP and databases along the way. Over roughly four years, I tested free hosting services — starting with 1GB on FreeHostingNoAds, then 5GB on AeonFree — slowly building what would become GreenGold Spaces.
What began as a free page on a shared subdomain has since moved to its own domain and its own cloud server — a platform built specifically so Malawian artists never have to pay just to be heard.
